When you get an office space for lease, you’ll need to move all your things from your old space into your new one. It’s possible that you might decide to go with entirely new interiors or you might choose to keep all the furniture that you had at your old place. Depending on what you decide to do, here are a few moving tips:
Evaluate. Your first step should be to look over all your old furniture and decide whether or not it’s worth transporting to your new place. You might not have noticed but those tables and couches which looked really new eight years ago have now gotten pretty battered. There might be certain things you choose to keep anyway, especially if they’re made from solid wood or have replaceable covers. But if something is really beyond repair, then get rid of it instead of taking the trouble to move it over to your new office space.
- Enlist employees. If you have quite a bit of furniture, you’ll probably be getting movers. However, you can also enlist your employees to move some of their own stuff. If each employee can pack up a box or two from their cubicle and take it to the new location, this will save you quite a bit of packing and moving. Plus, each person will be responsible for making sure that their things reach the correct destination.
- Give it time. You can’t expect to move everything in one day and be ready to start working the next day. It’s possible to have a lot of glitches in the process of moving. Things can break along the way and have to be replaced. Packing and unpacking will also probably take longer than you expect. Your phone lines and internet may not be ready to go as soon as you move in. So make sure that you give your employees and yourself some time to settle in before beginning work.
- Back up everything. When you’re moving computers, it’s really a good idea to back everything up on external hard drives, just in case the computers get damaged on the way. Make sure every employee is told to back up their work and keep it with them so that nothing gets lost in the process of moving.
